South Holland, and Spalding in particular, is the centre of a local and global industry that brings fresh and prepared food to the nation's tables as well as flowers to decorate their homes.
Many of the fresh vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, broccolli, cauliflowers and cabbages, that end up on the dinner plate of people around the country, are grown right here in and around Spalding.
Similarly, there are a number of growers who provide the nation's first 'herald's of spring' - the Daffodils. One of the largest of these being O A Taylor who are renowned for the superb quality of their bulbs.
David Bowman's company, the largest grower and supplier of pumpkins in and to Europe, is based here.
In addition to the flowers and produce that is grown locally there are a number of organisations who import further supplies from around the world. (These include - Angloflora, Butters Group, Flower Plus, Lingarden and others.) Thus making Spalding a hub for growing, preparation and distribution.
