Population & Workforce

South Holland is one the fastest expanding population stories in England: In the 2001 Census the total population of South Holland District was 76,522, which represented an increase of 13.4 % compared with the 1991 Census. This increase was greater than Lincolnshire (9.9%) or England and Wales (2.5%).

The population is predicted to increase another 9.1% by 2010, which again is significantly higher than the corresponding figure for England and Wales of 2.5%.

The ONS Mid 2002 population estimates already indicate a District population figure of 79,125. A total of 65.4% of the population are economically active (England and Wales 66.5%). The number of jobs in South Holland is estimated at 33,167 (Nomis – official labour market statistics November 2005).

The unemployment level in the district is considerably lower (2.6%) than the national average (5%). Thus there are a number of opportunities locally for work especially within certain sectors such as food preparation, agriculture, healthcare and catering.
